A Dj plays a record on a turntable, and pulls it backwards and forwards. The record is replaced by a zootrope decorated a kind of ring-dance of t-shirt labelled clones. The speed increases and the stills are blurred into a kind of spectral super-identity – a linear division is transformed into a schizophrenic ‘now’. A disc at the bottom of the zootrope spins away and cuts off the top of the Dj:s head. His brain turns out to be a bundle of multicoloured t-shirts.
Born 1977 in Huddiksvall, grew up in Nynäshamn. Master of Fine Arts degree in Umeå 2007. He is working mainly with an extended vector drawn animation-cycle, as well as graphics, in a kind of illustrative emblem-making, dealing with information and language as well as with identity and self-symbols. Through the use of generative formulas following compositional rules, puzzlelike narratives are constructed. Using snippets of literature and icons from popular culture, Sparr mixes them like a DJ in his animated videos with a critical wit. His work has been shown in many screenings and film festivals across the globe.
