A man is making a ‘Time Out’ sign with his hands. A computer-cursor is clicking on top of the film itself, revealing a video-player interface and pausing the movie. While paused, the animation actually becomes more agitated, lapsing into distortions and disturbances. When pressing play, the quite lethargic regular film continues and ends.
Born 1977 in Huddiksvall, grew up in Nynäshamn. Master of Fine Arts degree in Umeå 2007. He is working mainly with an extended vector drawn animation-cycle, as well as graphics, in a kind of illustrative emblem-making, dealing with information and language as well as with identity and self-symbols. Through the use of generative formulas following compositional rules, puzzlelike narratives are constructed. Using snippets of literature and icons from popular culture, Sparr mixes them like a DJ in his animated videos with a critical wit. His work has been shown in many screenings and film festivals across the globe.
