Through small scenes from the ongoing life the film circulates around the role of storytelling, borders, filmmaking, sorting and archiving trough the encounter with people in the small municipal of Hylte in Sweden.

The viewer encounters various individuals who together form a collage of a place and its stories. It’s a snapshot of rural Sweden today and an insight into an industrial community and its inhabitants. It’s a film about the importance of places in our lives and how preservation and storytelling require time and commitment. Beneath the surface lie stories and human destinies that shape the place. The film also reflectson the filmmaker’s own role in narrating about a place.

About the artist

Alexander Rynéus

Alexander Rynéus (1987) is a filmmaker and artist. His work often consist of place specific art projects surrounding storytelling, mythology and different layers of a place and its conditions. It is often the result of multi-year processes where there is room for existential and local political layers, sometimes with an underlying humor.

Educated at Konstfack and Biskops Arnö. Previous films: Giants and the Morning After, The Glitter Factory, The storytelling Machine, Autonomous, Stekenjokk & the guardians of the eggs, and The home and the Cavity. Shown on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Folkets Bio, Gothenburg Film Festival and nominated for Dox:Award – CPH:DOX, Best newcomer award – International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg, Emerging Artist Award – Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, etc. Shown at Kalmar Art Museum, Halland Art Museum, ArkDes. He is now working on several feature film productions and a new multi-channel video work.
