Using film photography and documentary audio, ‘A Different Category’ is a collage of discussions between three young women about girlhood and voice, and the intersecting experiences that make up adolescence. Reflecting on the competing desires between autonomy and connections, the young women discuss how society views them, and in turn how it makes them view themselves. ‘A Different Category’ was commissioned by Gerald Moore Gallery for the exhibition ‘Youth Uncovered’ and was made in collaboration with Georgina Baker, Camilla Makmudi and Michelle Nguyen. The film was made entirely through workshops using 35mm film, collage, drawing and direct animation.
