Filmform (est. 1950) is dedicated to preservation, promotion and worldwide distribution of experimental film and video art. Constantly expanding, the distribution catalogue spans from 1924 to the present, including works by Sweden’s most prominent artists and filmmakers, available to rent for public screenings and exhibitions as well as for educational purposes.
Swedish for immigrants consists of the sound from a language tutorial in Swedish for immigrants, combined with footage from the classic Swedish erotica film ‘Fäbojäntan’ (1978).
Andersson’s work is characterised by a conceptual simplicity and a sharply delineated setting. One of the key elements is an astringent sense of humour which serves to expose power structures and make hierarchies of values visible. Translation is a recurring thematic device and the focus is frequently on ways in which cultural identity is constructed around an idea.
